The key highlight of the Draw
• ITA – 1499
• CRS score - 663
The draw on May 30 targeted candidates with provincial nominations through the PNP on the other hand there is the May 31 draw that focused on the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). The CEC draw was particularly significant as it was the first of its kind since September 2021. Many CEC candidates currently live and work in Canada and aligning with the country's recent initiative to transition more temporary residents to permanent residents, thereby reducing the overall level of temporary residents.

Express Entry is an immigration system for skilled workers in which the applicant is selected through three subcategories - the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). The selection of the applicant is purely point based and the scores are calculated based on factors such as age, work experience, language proficiency, occupation, and education. The inclusion of a spouse or partner in the application is also considered.
Each factor contributes to a candidate's overall CRS score. Candidates are then ranked against others in the Express Entry pool, with those having the highest scores being most likely to receive an ITA for permanent residency in an upcoming draw. While each program has distinct eligibility criteria, they all use the same CRS system.
Upon receiving an ITA, candidates have 60 days to submit their final application for permanent residence to IRCC.
This category based system of express entry was introduced in May 2023 and it allows IRCC to select Express Entry candidates with attributes that are expected to have the most positive impact on Canada’s labor force and economy.
The selection includes six categories: five occupation-based and one targeting candidates with strong proficiency in the French language.
The occupation categories include:
The data as per the information available with the Access to Information Request suggests that the highest number of category-based selection draws this year will be for candidates with French proficiency and it will account for 30% of the draws. Then there are also other categories such as Healthcare and STEM occupations which will hold the place for 15% and 25% respectively. There are remaining categories which make up for 5% or less.
These recent draws and the introduction of category-based selection demonstrate IRCC’s commitment to addressing Canada’s specific labor market needs and economic goals through targeted immigration strategies
