People who want to run for provincial office were asked to apply this week in British Columbia and Manitoba. It was possible to send these invitations because the recipients were sure they had plans for work, school, or business. Also, Alberta has shared new details about the types of people who apply for different parts of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP).
On January 28, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) sent out at least two calls through its streams for entrepreneurs.
These were for people from other countries who wanted to open a business in the area.People who wanted to apply for both the Base Entrepreneur Stream and the Regional Entrepreneur Stream had to get at least a 123 on the GMAT. Each call is broken up like this:
• The Regional Entrepreneur Stream has invitation rounds about once a month for qualified business owners that are suggested by groups that are taking part.
• The Base Entrepreneur Stream has fewer rounds. The ones that do happen look at things like how many people registered, where they think the business should be located, how many people live in the area, how long the business has been open, and how well it fits with key business sectors.
The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) held two draws on February 6 for the International Education Stream and the Skilled Worker Overseas Stream.
There were 59 letters sent to applicants who met the requirements and had at least four years of full-time work experience in the last five years. As proof that they had worked before, applicants had to show legal papers. There wasn't a minimum score.
For the Skilled Worker Overseas Stream, 17 offers were sent out as part of a plan to hire people with a score of at least 612.
18 of the 76 offers sent were to people whose Express Entry profiles were still good.
So far, there have been no draws for the Alberta Advantage Immigrant Program (AAIP) in 2025. The Alberta Opportunity Stream leads with 28,830 EOIs, followed by the Tourism and Hospitality Stream (4,244) and the Rural Renewal Stream (3,029). The Alberta Express Entry Stream includes the Accelerated Tech Pathway (2,403), Family Connection and Occupation in Demand (2,206), and Priority Sector Draws (2,802). Dedicated Health Care Pathways have 1,026 EOIs, while the Law Enforcement Pathway has 70. These figures highlight Alberta’s immigration demand across various sectors. Right now, 44,610 names of candidates are in AAIP's EOI groups.
