The Canadian Government is selecting applicants through the Provincial Nominee Programs and there has been recent draws which serve as the testimony of applicants being invited through different routes. The Three Canadian provinces which conducted the latest darws are - Ontario, British Columbia, and Manitoba. They have also issued invitations to candidates for their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) this week. The aim with these draws is to bring skilled workers into the country through provincial immigration streams.
The Provincial Nominee Program was started in 1998 and it allows provinces and territories to share responsibility for immigration with the federal government. Thereby helping to distribute the benefits of immigration more evenly across Canada. Being nominated by a province strengthens a candidate’s application, especially for those in the Express Entry pool, as provincial nomination adds 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points and almost guaranteeing an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada.
Ontario issued invitations on October 8 under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), focusing on the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream. The province invited 885 candidates from skilled trades with a minimum score of 48, and another 841 candidates in targeted draws for priority occupations, requiring a minimum score of 52. The applicants have 30 days to complete their application and submit the documents if they wish to migrate through this channel to Canada.
British Columbia's Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) also issued invitations on October 8. The province invited over 173 candidates in sectors such as childcare, construction, healthcare, tech, and veterinary care, with minimum scores ranging from 80 to 116, depending on the industry. These are the upcoming sectors in the BC province and huge demand is expected in the coming years in these sectors in the future as well.
Manitoba's Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) held three draws on October 10. The first, under the Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream, issued 82 invitations with a minimum score of 845. The province also invited 114 candidates through the International Education stream and 38 candidates under the Skilled Worker Overseas stream, requiring a minimum score of 711.
These invitations reflect the provinces' ongoing efforts to attract skilled workers and support their immigration needs through PNPs
